Nationalism - a matter of pride or shame

What is Nationalism?

This question is stuck in my mind for a while now. When I started thinking about this topic, trying to get an answer, it raised more questions than answers.

What is a Nation? Nation State to be precise.

What is the meaning of a National flag?

What is the meaning of citizenship?

Why do every citizen have to obey the constitution of the nation
where one is born? What if one doesn't like the constitution of the country of one's birth?

Should he leave that country? If so, which country he should go to?

How can he get a Passport without first accepting the citizenship of the country he doesn't like?

What is the difference between a Citizen and a Subject?

What if one doesn't want to be Citizen or Subject of any Nation? Would any Nation State allow that? If not, why not?

I shall continue my quest....

I kind of feel that this Nationalism has something to do with the National State, its ability to control a geographical territory, to collect taxes from the populace of that territory, cake them believe it is their Nation. Sometimes to the extent that they wear uniforms, march in straight line, holding a flag of 'their' Nation and die to protect that State's territory. So that no other State shall collect taxes from  their motherland.
